Family Townhouse in Kensington

This three-bedroom Kensington home has been reimagined to create a beautiful and functional space for a growing family. There’s a sense of historical elegance to this London townhouse located in the heart of Kensington. Having grown up here, our client dreamt of creating a home that truly represented her and her family. Making new memories, with a focus on socialising, we redesigned and repurposed the key areas in the house.

Transforming the former grand dining room into a playroom and snug, we drenched the space in a delicate green that feels cosy and calming. Combined with playful prints for the blinds and rug, this room is the perfect environment for the children to explore and feel creative.

From here, head through to the kitchen and dining area. The proportions of the dining room were challenging, and our clients were eager to create an area for ten people but were unsure how to achieve this. After evaluating the space, we designed a bespoke banquette and bar, along with a custom dining table, to accommodate guests in a way that feels utterly appropriate for the space.

The existing cabinets were previously an intense purple, which felt heavy. Instead, we opted for a smoky green, a slightly deeper shade than the playroom, linking the two rooms on this floor. We paired this with a clean, soft white and an earthy pink neutral to create a cosy, inviting and sophisticated palette.

Moving to the raised ground floor, the adult-only living room has an impressive bookcase and a palette that feels calm and effortless. Adding comfortable furniture that allows for conversation was the foundation of this space.

The primary bedroom occupies the first floor. The palette consists of a warm neutral and an uplifting, rich teal that brings character and adds depth. We designed custom wardrobe doors and introduced a selection of beautiful fabrics on the curtains and footstool to create a relaxed and timeless interior.

The nursery sits on the top floor, providing an opportunity to add some character and charm. A sweet candy red ticking stripe fabric was chosen for the blinds, complemented by a gentle neutral on the walls and a playful blue on the woodwork. The existing desk and wardrobe combination was altered to create a cosy reading nook that can adapt back into a desk as the children get older.

The result of this transformation was a home that our clients could grow into and evolve. Providing a foundation for creating cherished moments was essential, and designing a home that can remain in the family for generations.
